Our Mission

Empowering crocheters to expand their skill set in a fun and relaxed way by supporting all on their Crochet Journey and providing the best crocheting experience with excellent customer service.

About Yarn Bits Shop

In August 2018, Lauren (founder and owner) applied for the CrateJoy Accelerator Program with an idea that was in its infant stages. To her surprise, Happy Hook Crocheting was selected for the program. Over the course of 12 weeks, the business was developed from an idea into reality and Happy Hook Crocheting launched in early November 2018 with the first box shipping out in December.

In October 2020, Happy Hook Crocheting changed its name to Yarn Bits Shop to clarify the overall brand and to emcompass the eventual goals to be a seller of many brands of yarn online. In additon, the Crochet Journey success path was added to provide further clarity of how to progress as a crocheter at all levels.

About Lauren

Lauren, who is the founder and owner of Yarn Bits Shop, has been crocheting for over a decade and making things with her hands since birth practically. Lauren’s start with fiber arts was not with crocheting…. She learned how to knit in 3rd grade with her Girl Scouts troop, expanded her skill set in 5th grade thanks to her math teacher, and continued to knit solely until high school.

In high school, her grandmother showed her how to crochet and the rest is history. Her main focus on crocheting has always been blankets and she has made over 150 blankets (throw size or larger!) throughout high school and college. The majority of these blankets are for gifts or donations to cancer patients. Nowadays, her focus with crocheting is expanding beyond blankets and into clothes and more, designing patterns for the Yarn Bits Subscription boxes, and trying to manage her increasing stockpile of yarn.

Outside of all this crocheting and managing Yarn Bits Shop, Lauren went to college for Biomedical Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology and works as a Quality Engineer focused on automated software testing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is also an avid runner with a run streak (running at least 1 mile everyday) of over two years along with over 15 half marathons and 5 marathons under her belt. The engineering, crocheting, and running are all innerconnected in Lauren’s life and helps Yarn Bits Shop continuously grow and improve.
